THE IMPORTANCE OF TREATING GUM DISEASE

75% of adult tooth loss is caused by gum disease and at least 80% of the population has some degree of gum disease. This disease is an infection of the gums and jawbones and is caused by the colonization of bacteria underneath the tartar on your teeth. Often there are no noticeable symptoms for a long time. A dentist or hygienist must do a thorough and complete examination to detect gum disease, especially in its early stages.

Bacteria and the chemical by-products that the body uses to fight these bacteria can enter the blood stream and cause serious problems in distant parts of the body. In fact, gum disease has been linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, pre-mature births, and low birth weight.

CHARTING & DIAGONOSTIC

We provide regular and periodical care for your gums in order to maintain optimal health for your gums and to prevent disease. Gum disease is a progressive condition with common symptoms including gingivitis and bleeding gums. At LV Dental Arts we provide top-notch diagnostics to detect problems and recommend treatment to restore your gums to a healthy state.

SCALING AND ROOT PLANING

Scaling and Root Planing is a non-surgical procedure done to treat periodontal disease. This procedure involves thoroughly scaling all plaque, bacteria and tartar deposits from your teeth and the surfaces of the roots, and then smoothing all rough areas on your roots’ surfaces. Smooth root surfaces keep bacteria, plaque, and tartar from reattaching underneath the gumline and allow your gums to heal and reattach themselves more firmly to your teeth.

DEEP CLEANING & IRRIGATION

Dental plaque and tartar are the causative factors of gum disease. During our deep cleaning process, we conduct a non-surgical process that removes tartar and subgingival plaque, helping to restore the health of your gums. A deep cleaning and irrigation may be recommended to treat more severe problems and to treat hard to reach areas.
